I think I may be doing something wrong because Sony Vegas Pro 9 is running very slow on my computer. When I look at the preview, the audio plays nicely, but the video shows one frame, then freezes, then show another frame 80 frames later, freezes, then shows another frame 75 frames later, and freezes again. Is there anyway to make the preview run fast enough for me to actually know what is going on in the video? And are videos supposed to render super slowly? It takes over half an hour for every minute of video when I render to .avi format. And a ten second video is over 38 MB. Is there a better way to render this?

    What Media are you using?

    What settings is your Project?

What template are you rendering to? Yes you say AVI, but what details of the AVI template? Uncompressed (my guess is that!) . . . what?

    Your PC Specs?

You’ll need to provide a bit more info – please?

    Grazie

Those are the classic signs of a computer which is not fast enough to decode and display your source video. You probably need to describe your computer, and the video format you are trying to edit. Also, what version of Vegas?

It’s Vegas Pro 9. I’m trying to edit an MP4 file (from my Flip camcorder) to render to an AVI. The template is = NTSC DV. I have 2 GB of RAM (1.87 GB usable), with a 2.2 GHz processor running Windows 7, and a 32-bit Operating System. Is that what you need to know?

I shall leave it to more knowledgeable people to offer specific solutions, but, based on what I’ve read here in Cow, you are attempting to edit a very difficult source video format with a very underpowered computer. I am guessing that it also has only one hard drive which is modest in both speed and capacity.

For starters, you might want to search the forum for previous discussions regarding the Flip camcorder.

All right I will. Do you think it will make more sense to convert it to a different format before editing it?
