    Hi Everybody,
I have a clip that I have changed by “Reverse Speed 200%” in the clip speed/duration dialog box. Even after rendering, the clip stutters in my Video Monitor, although it looks good on the computer.
It is AVC-Intra 100 HD material in Premiere CC. Can anyone tell me what Im doing wrong?

    thanks in advance
    Simon

In order to separate Speed/Duration from other potential causes, please confirm whether the video monitor can play AVC-Intra clips at normal speed.

Also, how is the AVC-I clip being played: from Premiere Pro on a secondary full screen display (Edit>Preferences>Playback>Video Device), with a media player outside of Premiere Pro, other?

    Hi Ivan,
thanks for the quick reply. The signal runs out through a Blackmagic Intensity Pro card. The rest of the AV-Intra clips in the sequence play ok. Lots of other clips have speed / duration changes too, although the one that stutters is the only one with a reverse.

Is the clip being played by Premiere Pro or as an encoded file in a media player?

If Premiere Pro, is the video monitor set up as a full screen display using Edit>Preferences>Playback>Video Device?

Also, have you tried rendering a preview? Premiere might just be coughing up when trying to play in real-time.

    Hi Simon,

Do you have CUDA or OpenCL enabled? If so, can you try turing it off to see if that resolves it?

    Thanks,

Im not at work anymore, but the clips are from a P2 card (copied first onto a hard drive), and imported straight out of the media browser into the project, so theyre not being played by a media player. (If I understand you correctly).
Yes, the HD monitor is full screen.
I have only rendered the sequence so far. I havnt tried exporting it yet. Normally I do all the finishing in AE, but liked the look of one of the cinema filters in Premiere, so wanted to master it there. I will try to export it tomorrow. Like I said, its strange because the rest of the sequence plays fine. And my workstation is an x820, 64 gigs ram and a nvidia maximus setup, so there should be no problems there.

Try 1 of the following 2 solutions to see if it helps.

    1. Disable CUDA

    2. Right-click the clip in the Timeline, select Field Options> Check Reverse Field Dominance box

I was just going to suggest reversing fields on that as well.

Hi Peter, thanks for the tip. I turned off the CUDA, and now it plays smoothly, although it naturally takes 4 times longer to render.
Any ideas why the speed / duration change doesn’t function properly with the acceleration turned on?

    Hi Simon,

It’s a known issue and will be addressed, but I don’t have an ETA on that.

Try keeping CUDA on and reverse the field dominance. That should also resolve the issue.

    Take care,

I tried that, but to no avail…
