sorry, this is more of a hardware question, but you guys might know
i do alot of animation and post so usually work with barely compressed image sequences. i was wondering what kid of hardware you need to be able to play back sequences at full frame rate without having to render them first. would a 2 drive raid be fast enough? or is there a processor issue here too?

You should spend some time on the Blackmagic and Aja boards. There are hardware and software issues involved. Although Premiere Pro is resolution independent, it won’t play back uncompressed SD footage from the timeline in realtime. BlackMagic’s Decklink (and Aja I suppose, I use the Decklink card) will allow 8 bit and now 10 bit (PPro 2) realtime playback. You’ll need to spec your computer hardware per the capture card’s recommendations. Pay close attention to recommended miniumum hardware config and motherboard chipset specs! A 2 drive 10,000 RPM SATA stripe may get you started in SD res. You’ll eventually want (or need) a 4-way SATA or SCSI stripe.
