    Hi!

I have a client that wants me to submit his movie to iTunes so the movie can be downloaded from iTunes.

I have been searching Apple and other sources to find the techincial specs of the file I should prepare for submission to iTunes.

Do you know what the format and specs are? And what compression setting are you using?

I wish Apple make it easier to find out. In one place, all they do is supply recommended vendors to format your video…

    Thanks again, James

[James Redmond] “I have been searching Apple and other sources to find the techincial specs of the file I should prepare for submission to iTunes.”

Hmmm… first hit on Google revealed this:

Formatting Video for the iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad or Apple TV

[James Redmond] “Do you know what the format and specs are? And what compression setting are you using?”

According to that link, iPod Touch & iPhone 4, iPad & Apple TV can play the following video formats:

    • H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    • MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    • Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

You will need to purchase QuickTime Pro in order to make H.254 MOV files because Vegas Pro cannot do this.

That’s a good link too. I think you’re right, between the two links you’re all set.

Actually, I take back what I said about needing QuickTime Pro.

Since iTunes accepts .mp4 files you can use the Sony AVC H.264 codec with the Internet 1280×720-30p template. Press the Custom button and change the Profile from Baseline to Main. That should satisfy their requirements.
