Steve, I notice on your signature that you shoot on both the Sony F900 as well as the Sony EX 1

I am curious about your, or any one else’s opinion on this that has shot with both cams, how do they match up (cut together)? I assume the F900 is WAY more camera and I know it is WAY more money. I would like to hear your comparison of the two and your opinion toward the purchase of an F900. I have the EX1 and love the cam but have noticed some things (like image going soft when slow panning) that I am not happy with and I am considering upgrading my camera setup.

Thanks for your thoughts on this!

[Richard Cooper] “how do they match up (cut together)?”

I’ve seen EX and F900 footage intercut for a street scene at night and I was hard pressed to tell the difference.

Turn off the detail setting on the EX and you should see a significant improvement in your soft image. Then turn the detail setting back on but severely limit the effect to the point that it’s as good as turned off. The detail setting should actually be left on because, unlike some of the other high end Sony cameras, turning off detail on the EX cameras also turns off other settings as well. Don my friend,
I missed that thread and is very interesting.
I get lost with the camera technical questions, but I’m working with a PP (I think I copied it from a SONY web site) that is working very well with the camera movements. The Detail is set to -15 and the Frequency +45.
I miss more discussions about Pictures Profiles in our forum.
I have a look now and them to other forums to see suggestions about PP’s I’ve realized that people change many things (Matrix, Gamma, Blacks, etc) but almost no one touch the “Detail”.
I think that to tweak a camera properly is necessary a lot of knowledge. I don’t dare.
    Cheers,
    rafael

There are a handful of network TV series that shoot F950 or 900 with EX1 or EX3 as their b-camera. Can’t remember exactly which ones but it is being done.
