  • Spanned P2 Clip Doesnt play on Camera or FCP

    Hi,

I have footage on a P2 card that I cannot view on the camera nor can I import it. On the camera, I can see the clip in the thumbnail view, but I cannot play it or repair it. When I try to import it into FCP, it says that it is “spanned”. Is there anyway around this? Or is this footage lost?

This is because you were recording with 2 P2 cards in the camera.
Where are the CONTENTS and LASTCLIP.txt from the other P2 card?

A spanned clip will still play in the camera up to the point it is spanned, even if the second card with the remainder of the footage is not loaded in the camera. You should see a little purple box with an “!” mark, in the top right corner of the the thumbnail. If you load the second card and remove the first the same thing will happen with it. The clip will pay from the change over point on to the end of the clip.
As for why it’s not playing in your camera, do you have the record function set up set to the same settings as the clip you are trying to play?

Does the clip have an exclamation point on it in the thumbnail view in the camera?

Make sure the card is not write-protected, then select the clip with the pause button, then try to replair clip.

What version of FCP are you running?
