  • spacebar preview duration… so short?

    Hi hi —

I have to ask a really basic question.

It seems like after I upgraded to AE CS3 (Mac), that the maximum spacebar-preview duration got really short. Is it just my imagination? (Spacebar preview, I mean, when you press the space bar and let it render the comp and then loop.)

It seems like AE7 I could have 15 or 20 seconds @ 640×480, and it would go green and loop. But now the sluggish green stripe chases its tail after 5 seconds. (That is, it throws away old frames to make room for the next one.)

Is there any trick that I’m not getting? (I think “RAM preview template” applies only to the time-controls buttons, no?)

I’ll be getting more RAM soon, which I know will help, but did anyone else notice that it declined in CS3? Or is it me.

Any guidance appreciated! Cheers –> d

Space bar previews are NOT the same thing as a true RAM preview. With a space bar preview AE is simply forced to chug through the timeline, frame by frame, as best it can based on the speed of your processor etc. There is absolutely no value in doing a spacebar preview, so you should use the zero-key preview or the RAM preview button in the time controls palette.
