SP 1080/24p FCP Sequence Settings?
Posted by Peter Chambers on May 31, 2011 at 2:58 pmI’ve screwed up in the past and I don’t want to screw up again…
What sequence settings do I choose in FCP under ‘Easy Setup’? Is it still XDCAM EX 1080p24 VBR or CBR OR is this an HDV setting?!

May 31, 2011 at 3:16 pmSP is HDV and it is CBR for 25Mbps constant bit rate
HQ is the EX codec, 35Mbps VBR, variable bit rate
Good Luck

May 31, 2011 at 3:19 pmHey thanks…I think I figured it out — just matched the specs in XDCAM Transfer tool and found indeed that I shot HDV, 1440×1080 60i.
Thanks for the quick reply.

May 31, 2011 at 3:22 pmIf you create a new sequence and drop a clip on it, FCP will ask if you’d like it to match the settings. Answer affirmative. Then you can examine the sequence settings and see what FCP has chosen.
Generally there’s little reason to shoot SP mode (there are a few but I’d consider those exceptional cases).

May 31, 2011 at 5:58 pmAs previously stated, you can just drop your footage on the timeline and Final Cut will make the settings for you. So don’t worry about all the settings.
Also, if you ever shoot with different cameras, different codecs, it’s better to convert everything to prores first, or drop you preferred codec on the timeline and see what happens with the rest of the alternative clips.
