Sourounf Sound the Kona2 and the new Soundtrack

SDI on Kona 2, 3, LH, and LHe is capable of (x) audio tracks, where x certainly exceeds the 6 required for 5.1 audio. So, in theory, the Kona drivers could most likely be written support to 5.1. It will be interesting to see… Question is, what hardware would you use to split out the audio in order to properly monitor all six channels?

You’d have a hard time getting DOLBY to come down and approve this room, but it might be nice for smaller projects.

As I wrote on the FCP Forum, I think the 5.1 addition to FCP will have two primary results: 1) it will sell lots of new speakers and 2) it will mean lots of unnecessary sound effects flying around people’s videos.

Personally, I think I’ll be keeping doing my 5.1 mixes at the facility I always use where they do 5.1 mixes 365 days a year. And, I’ll be keeping my edit bay in the stereo domain for quite a while, after all, I only have two ears.
