Soundsoap alternative
Posted by Gilles Gagnon on May 8, 2017 at 7:50 pmHi folks,
Years ago a friend of mine used Soundsoap to easily cleanup audio.
Soundsoap has been defunct for years. Is there an alternative that can “learn noise” and extricate it as Soundsoap did?I did see some rumblings about iZotope RX on this board but I have no clue if this is as good or the way to go.
Cheers!

May 8, 2017 at 9:07 pmiZotope RX is the way to go. For starters, RX Elements .. I think it’s $99 .. Works beautifully with Vegas.

The price sounds like good value!Does it have a “learn Sound” to extract the unwanted noise by listening to a sample like SoundSoap had?

May 8, 2017 at 10:15 pmGilles, knowing your music skills, I think you’d be much happier with iZotope RX. It’s more money but it has a LOT more features that I’m sure you’ll end up using more and more.
Here’s a comparison chart.

It’s that I inherited video interviews with atrocious bg noise on a whole lot of different tracks, different cameras. So I’m hoping for a quick method, like that of Soundsoap. Project has limited budget/time.
That was sooooo easy. Learn the noise, tweak the slider and the audio was magically “cleaned” to 90%… very acceptable in all cases.
I’ll try Isotope and hope it’s as simple. I don’t have time to learn a whole variety of settings, etc.
Thanks!

Yeah, having read your posts on the COW over time, I don’t think you’re gonna get with iZotope. If they have a DEMO try and see/hear first.
As part of the “rumblings” I adore iZo RX and have been with it since 2007. I’ve seen/heard it improve and push out User friendliness and their VooDoo repair-algorithms to keep me wanting more and support their efforts.
Word to the wise? BG noise can be a real issue as it tends to be within the similar freqs as the target signal. But, the latest iZo6 Advanced, which I have does do this “Machine Learning” thing which is way cool.
Here’s an offer, if you want to give me 10 second WAV of a typical TARGET and removal sample and I’ll give a go in iZo6 ADVANCED.

May 9, 2017 at 11:22 pmThanks so much for the offer Graham! Very kind of you.
I think I’ll try the free trial and see how that goes. If I get a snag… I may come knocking lol.
It looks like it may do the trick though.
