Sound sync issues FCP / iMac
Hello,
I have shot a short film with about 15 hours of rushes. I was using the 5D with independent sound, synced afterwards with Pluraleyes.
The problem is that there is definitely a lag between the audio and the image on the original .mov files when played out through FCP on my computer. On my FSI Grade 1 monitor, they are closer together-maybe 1 or 2 frames out, sometimes. (There is a recently noted lag with the 5D and it’s audio tracks – in camera, may be due to a recent camera firmware issue) Connection to the monitor is HD-SDI through Matrox MXO.The problem is that I find my FSI monitor does not have very good / loud enough sound. I would like to be able to use my computer occasionally, especially for simple operations like syncing. I also fear that even through the FSI monitor, this lag is actually being generated by the Mac itself, but can’t be sure. I certainly don’t want to be correcting an issue that isn’t there in reality.
Does anyone know why this happening on my iMac with FCP? Is it merely an issue of not having enough processing power? Is their some settings which need to be changed? Really I have no other apps open, with everything dedicated to FCP when I am using it. What’s going on that I would have up to as much as 9 frames of lag when viewed solely on the computer?
