    Hi,

I have a Hauppauge hd pvr and Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10 Platinum.

Heres what I’m doing. I import a .m2ts file into Vegas, I import .wav music files. I add the video/voice to the time line, then I add the music files to the time line. Render to local drive as .m2ts, upload to YouTube. NOTE: YouTube converts onto mpegts(quality on YouTube is great)

Problem is on YouTube the music and video voice are way too low. When I’m editing in Vegas the sound levels are good(from my speakers at least). It seems like when my video starts and its just the music the level is good and then when the voice starts both levels drop down. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Tim

Does the waveform get close to 0DB?It should almost clip but not. You can normalize it if it’s low.

Sorry. I’m not sure what you mean. Where do I check the waveform?

Right under the video track on the timeline.

If you can’t already see it (normally docked next to the output preview window), turn on the Mixer window which has the output audio level meters. These show you how “hot” your audio is. If they go into the red above 0dB (positive values, clipping) you need to back off the levels on one or more audio tracks. For Youtube videos, you can aim for levels approaching 0dB.

    @Matt Crowley

I am turning thoese levels almost all the way up hoping that that would solve my problem. So the meters were red alot. So thats my problem? I need to lower the main levels so theres no red hitting?

    Thanks,
    Tim

“I need to lower the main levels so theres no red hitting?”

Leave the master fader at it’s preset.
You need to learn to control the volume on individual tracks so that the master level never exceeds 0 db.
An easy way to do this is by using Volume envelopes on each track.
The shortcut key for this is ‘v’.
Click on each track’s header and press this key.
A thin blue line will now run the entire length of the track.
Double-clicking the line adds a node (i.e. point) that can be raised or lowered as needed.
When you want to add a voice-over to your project and lower the music so that the voice can be heard, you’ll need to add 4 points to the music track, 2 before the voice-over starts and 2 after it ends.
Once this is done, click the line between points 2 and 3 and drag it down to the desire level.
There’s a tutorial on the Sony site that goes into a bit more detail.
The section that explains this starts around the 6:30 mark.
