    Hello,

    I have a question regarding the best procedure to follow to improve a sound mix.

    I have a cut of a short movie which lasts approximately 25 minutes and uses around 100 clips. When it was recorded, there was a rough stereo sound mix sent to the cameras and I did the first version of the cut using this sound mix.

    Now I have access to the individual audio tracks (5 tracks, recorded using Pro tools and converted to OMF) and I think I can get a much better mix than the one that was sent to the camera.

    My question is about what you would think the best procedure to follow would be in this case. I can see two ways of doing this, and find both very labor intensive and wonder if there is a better/more canonical way of doing this:

    * For each .dv clip, erase the original soundtrack, and replace it by a newly mixed one. I would do this by putting each clip in its own sequence, adding the audio mix rendering and exporting to a .dv file. This would take some time.

    * Delete the audio track of the final cut and try to mix the audio there directly.

    Is there a better way to achieve this altogether? Are there any potential pitfalls to either of these approaches that I need to be aware of?

    Firstly FCP doesn’t import OMFs so the multi track files should be sourced directly, preferably as broadcast wav.

    Secondly, find someone with an up to date Fairlight running dream2 software. A newish feature is the ability to relink a stereo file to multi track files and import the missing tracks into a project. Important to the process is that the original files were broadcast wav and had the same timecode as the multi track broadcast wavs.
