I am working on a trade video and am having trouble with my sound levels. Part of the video is VO from a production house. When I bring this into FCP the levels are coming in at -18db when they should be coming in at -12db. Is there an overall setting that I have set wrong? This has been a issue with several projects I have worked on. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Post house may ahve mastered to that… some formats like digibeta use a -18 db levels. I would suggest making sure tracks are panned center… then duplicate the audio by Option dragging a ssecond copy to a lower track.

Is it better to pan center or should I copy the track and pan one left and the other right? Thanks for the info.

Unless you have stero effects…. pan narration center… leave music panned left and right

No need to “duplicate” the audio tracks to add level (an possibly complicate the edit down the line).

Just add the Audio Filters > Apple > AUPeakLimiter and adjust the “Pre-gain” to any level you want.

Filters require rendering…. duplicating a track does not

    Either way works
