I shot an event where the syncing of two cameras is very critical and I need to see the audio waveform of both cameras. When I load one of the av files into the viewer or place it on the timeline I hear all of the audio but there is no visible waveform of the clip. I am pushing the Option/Apple/W keys and all I see are grey “X” spaced along the audio in a1 & a2. The files are on a Lacie FW drive. Now if I unplug the Lacie and plug it into my PowerBook G4 and load the project and the clip I can see the audio waveform on the same clip. I compared settings on both the G4 and the G5 and they are the same. Now I can place the clip from the other camera in the Viewer or the Timeline and I can see its audio wave form in both places.

What the heck is causing this?

You can also try to trash Waveform Cache Files in the Final Cut Pro Documents folder.

This is really strange. I can clearly see all the waveform on A1 and A2 but just the Xs on A3 and A4. I just zoomed in on the timeline and I can see the A3 and A4 waveform. But it is so zoomed in I can’t find my self. If I zoom out one time it is gone. Let me try the waveform cache files.

It won’t hurt if I delete all of the kgwv files? There is over 1 gig of data and 492 files in there. Is this because of poor housekeeping? If so, how often do I clean this out? There are files in there that were created in 12/04.

Try making your timeline tracks bigger. (wider/taller) The waveforms don’t show up when the timeline is set to the smallest tracks. Go to a larger size and spread them out for detail. They should appear then.

The two audio tracks didn’t show up at any setting on the timeline or in the Viewer until I deleted all of the waveform files in Final Cut Pro Documents. I guess it was getting bogged down refreshing the screen.
