Where else can I go for such a silly question?

I would like to know if anyone has done this or knows how to do this. I have a DVR (Scientific Atlanta) from my cable company and I plugged an eSATA external drive into it and recorded several HD shows I would now like to view them on a Mac.

Does anyone know how to get access to these files and convert them etc… I would ask the cable company but I am doing something they don’t want me to do.

    Thanks for the help

What is the format or file type of those HD shows?

They are usually encrypted mpeg2 stransport streams.

some DVR’s allow you to decrypt the content for re-purposing but that kind of thing is not discussed here at the cow.

I have no idea,I have not tried to mount the drive to my computer because the DVR actualy had me format the drive to its own OS thing. I don’t think this thing will mount but maybe it will to a Wintel computer.

I don’t have a WinTel computer with a SATA port.

The truth is, at $110 for 320 gigs of HD programing my eSATA drive is a good enough deal where I might just put it on the shelf until I find a way to look at it and burn them to Blue Ray when that is doable.

Do you have a MacTel computer with a SATA port?

    No.

I think there is an SATA to Firewire or USB external box wire thing to Mac or PC, maybe I will try that…

Even if I get it mounted I can only wonder what I do next.

MPEG streamclip is a good jumping off point.

Lets say its MPEG streamclip, is that a Blue Ray happy formate or do I have to trans code it and if so trans code to what and how?

    Thanks for your help

You would have to test and see. Do you have BluRay burner?
