    Reading with interest about this new camera. Did quite a bit of Googling on AVCHD as well as searching this forum. I’m thinking of getting this camera for those times when I don’t want or need to take my VX2000 or DSR-250 on the road. Plus it would be nice to start getting my feet wet on HD anyway.

    My questions are;
    1. Does Vegas 8 then automatically down convert to SD when I bring in video from this camera?

    2. Authoring a SD DVD, is an original HD down-converted have any better picture than capturing from my VX2000?

    3. I think I understand that these files are of an MPEG-2 type? I’m reading about M2t or something like that. So I’m looking at limited editing then. Is the size of 720 x 480 still apply or are we looking at a different video size? Or am I not asking the right question?

    $. DSE, What’s your latest book on HD (AVCHD)? 😉

    Thanks
    Allen

    No. Vegas imports this media as HD, as it should.

    Yes, a significantly better image will come from this cam compared to your VX, in most situations.

    These files are 1440 x 1080, same as HDV, in an MTS stream (mpeg).

    Look for it at NAB 2008

    Hi Spot and thanks.

    What do I need to downconvert to SD then? Software or hardware?

    Right now that camera sounds good and has some great reviews. Would be nice and compact to take to China wih me. Unless I have some technical video to shoot there.

    I should start thinking about 16/9 wide angle for my tourist videos.
