I have recently switched from recording to camera to recording to PC via OBS, as this provides me with a much better workflow. This involved a GPU upgrade so I could record at 4k like I did to the camera..

I record guitar lessons and work in a limited space, so I don’t have much wiggle room to get the look I want, again previously I had this down ( although I’m not sure how, losing the plot I think ) my settings must have been slightly different because when I did the upgrade and switched to pc recording things changed.

First of all I found that shooting at 4k 30fps cropped the image significantly and as mentioned because of limitations with space, this was unacceptable, so I figured out that dropping this to 24fps gives me my old scene ( No noticeable crop ) I am not sure if the new 24fps will work with my guitar lessons, but i’m sure someone here can enlighten me, but I don’t have many options, as I see it, unless I’m missing something ?

To get the look I need, I am shooting with the Sigma 16mm with a f1.4 aperture to give me some separation from the background, which is essential.

I am very much at the testing stage and whilst I have improved the framing as much as I can, the focus is now the main issue, it’s not sharp and I am struggling to improve it as some of the focus options are greyed out, I have tried many things and am getting pretty frustrated, which is why I’m here to ask people who know much more than me… So what is the best focus for my guitar instruction ? I realise that f1.4 is almost certainly not helping, as it is such a narrow depth of field. Somehow I managed this in the previous set up ( Recording to camera ) so that when I needed a shot of hand position or guitar neck I moved the guitar to the same plane as my face.. This meant I could keep the narrow depth of field and I did also manage to get a pretty sharp image, again I’m not sure what my settings were that allowed this, but something seems to have changed, I wish I knew what..

Anyways, would really appreciate some help on how to achieve good focus, some instruction on specific settings would be a tremendous help to me.. Also if there is anything else that can be improved or is causing alarm bells it would be good to know..

    Thank you
