May 22, 2005 at 11:06 amIn response to the original question, Z1 and FX1 are great 16:9 DV cameras that offer HDV as well. In our experience the downconverted HDV images look better than the images shot on DV, the new FCP Production suite will make the downconversion even better. If you want to buy something now then get a Sony, if not then wait to see how the Panny Cam works, picture quality will certainly be more robust, but workflow remains an unknown quantity until people are actually using it, although the theory is very good. Also remember manufacturers release dates can slip back, especially when new technology is involved.

May 26, 2005 at 10:28 pmI just installed the Matrox codec set on my Windows XP Pro with SP2 machine. I am running Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5.1 and I now have the following additional Windows AVI movie export options:
Matrox DV/DVCAM
Matrox DVCPRO
Matrox DVCPRO 50
Matrox M-JPEG
Matrox MPEG-2 I-FrameI had a demo of the MainConcept DVCPPRO 25/50 codec installed previously, but it is no longer in my export options. I believe this Matrox codec has replaced it.
Can anyone answer this question for me though? Is the DVCPRO 25 or DVCPRO 50 codec “universal”? Meaning, if I export a movie as a DVCPRO 50 using the Matrox codec, can someone who has the MainConcept DVCPRO 50 codec play it without issues? Does Panasonic have an “official” codec to install for DVCPRO 25, DVCPRO 50, or DVCPRO HD?

May 24, 2015 at 6:56 pmI think i’d be definitely worth waiting for the DVX200, much better than the Z1 specwise. But ooops, its already 2015;-)
