I am using vegas 6.0d with a blackmagic card to capture footage from a digital betacam. The result is an avi encoded as 8 bit sony YUV. If I import this into afx it crashes. Does anyone know anything about this?

Obviously I could convert these avi’s to a different format, but I would like to avoid that if possible. Every other application I tried has no problem with the sony YUV format, including premiere pro 2. I cant understand wht after effects 7 would be different.

I would post this in the Blackmagic forum. It seems related to a known issue with 8bit captures done with Premiere Pro 2 and a Blackmagic card. These files will also crash AE7. The only workaround is a different codec. I am currently capturing everything in 10bit.

Ok. Sounds like I will need to wait until sony adds 10 bit blackmagic capture support to vegas. I can use premiere for the moment. Thanks for your reply.

Kristian Lam from Blackmagic design confirmed this and posted this link https://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail.asp?techID=151

This isn’t just a Black Magic problem. We are having the same thing with 8 bit Targa 3000 files that also work fine in 6.5.

It is an Adobe problem, but when will they fix it! Patches from Adobe are few and far between. It seems like they’d rather leave something broken than admit it ever was.
