Sony Vegas Weak Support

Complain to Sony. They won’t notice any complaints here. I had many similar problems with them which delayed me by quite a bit on a few projects. Vegas 10 or 11 won’t work with Cineform avi files at all for me, which is going to be a problem when I get my hard drive data recovered on one that crashed and have to go through some old projects in avi for clients who still need a few videos from them. Sony and Cineform say that Cineform avi should work fine, but I’ve gotten no actual help from either of them. Their help (though Cineform seems to care and was much more responsive) amounted to, “It should work.”

Just this morning I got a response to a complaint I sent on Oct. 17th. They asked me to send a video clip to see if they could reproduce my problems with Cineform avi footage. And their website gives me an error for any video clips I try to upload.

I got the same thing when I asked for help the sixth time,I am contacting some People I know on the Broadcast end to see if we can get some answers. I could sure have used the Program last week.

Vegas Support is a tad slow, maybe they are overloaded.

Cineform: No problems importing Neoscene .avi to the timline, there is however a minor problem in that the par is wrong. In my case 1.0 instead of 1.33. This is easily corrected with a script.
I have it from cineform that version 5.5.4 is the last version and no further development is expected.

Yes, Geoff! I have the same problem with all my Cineform avi footage-par is changed to 1. Well, that was the beginning of my problems, since Vegas started crashing constantly with avi.dll errors, to the point where as soon as I opened a project with Cineform avi footage, it would crash. I now use the raw AVCHD that comes out of my cameras.

We do most of the title work in Adobe After Effects but when the work load gets heavy I like to get things done faster to meet the deadlines. Adobe Premier has a decent Title program but no animation capabilities, we had nothing but problems with Sony Vegas 11 and NewBlue Titler Pro”

You might want to look at getting Boris Continuum Complete 7 for Vegas Pro. It gives Vegas more After Effects-like capabilities including some outstanding 3D text. I only rarely use AE now that I have BCC7 right in Vegas Pro.

Thanks for the suggestion John, I’m not a big fan of Boris products We had bought them in the past but found them to cumbersome to use, as I said We need a CG that can get the job done faster that’s why Blue looked so promising. After effects it great but it takes a lot of time when you have a lot of moving graphics on multiple screens.

Philip, The past is the past. BCC7 is fully integrated into Vegas Pro and unlike any Boris experience you’ve know before. It literally behaves just like the Sony plug-ins now. Watch my tutorial on 3D text and see if you think it’s cumbersome. It’s pretty much drag and drop and use right in Vegas.
