sony vegas “stabilize” controls
Hello, I finished editing a video clip, where the velocity was increased(speed up). After rendering the clip to avi and playing back, the content played back somewhat distorted in the scenes where there was motion(people moving), where these “lines” would form on the contour of the people/objects. I applied the “stabilize” control a few times, but the result was the same every time – it would eliminate the line effect, but would crop the video only displaying a portion of it. Is it possible to “stabilize” a clip and retain all it’s content after? All suggestions welcome, Thanks.

Unfortunately no. Stabilisation works by cropping the video and then compensating for unwanted pan, tilts and motion using the cropped out areas to make the correcting/counteracting adjustments.
You will notice that if you use an event that has a very deep zoom in and out and stabilise that event, the cropping will be quite excessive compared to if you just stabilised a relatively static zoomed out (or in) only portion. You might want to consider splitting up your event and stabilising the sections where there is minimal zooming, and add cutaways when you are zooming in, or cut the zooms out all together.

That is how it is stabilizing your clip, by cropping the video and eliminating the shaking. Which version of Vegas are you using? I prefer the stabilization in Sony Vegas Video 10 the best (I purchased Vegas 11, but I still use 10 because I like it better). Tinker with the settings until you can get it to crop it the least.

Why would Sony make a useful filter less capable in a newer release? I’m thinking of getting the newbluefx stabilizer filter, anyone have experience with it?
