Sony Vegas Render Time: 33 hours for a 8 minute video?

Hard to say what specifically is your problem. But if after
you restart your system and still having this ridiculous render
time with the WMV format, just render out instead in another format,
(example Quicktime) and drop it back on the timeline and now
render out in the WMV format.
And if you are gonna worry about quality loss, that is irrelevant.

also i just rendered the same video on a different computer and it took 30 mins. the specs on the other computer is 3ghz and 4ram

does it have something to do with windows settings? cuz i reset all settings to default on sony vegas and still no luck

also tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it doesnt work. i know something isnt normal because the first time i rendered something it was really fast.

It’s probably the output format that you selected. Windows Media Video is a horrible format to render to in Vegas Pro. Try rendering to a more modern AVC/H.264 format like Sony AVC or MainConcept AVC and see if it renders faster. Those are GPU accelerated so you will want to edit the template and turn GPU processing on if your GPU is recognized and see which way it renders faster. (the default is GPU off unfortunately)

to me looks like you have GPU acceleration turned on and the card is recognized by Vegas Pro, but unfortunately it just sits there doing nothing, update drivers, disable/enable GPU and try again… what is exactly your GPU model and drivers ?

Do you mean Intel HD4000 video processor? That is the integrated GPU with some of the Ivy Bridge i5 processors, so you’re probably not getting the benefit of GPU acceleration. A video workstation should always have a dedicated video card and not use the Intel GPU that is integrated with the system processor.

thanks for the reply, but i dont think the type of format is the problem, i think theres something weird in my settings. ive rendered something using the same format and it gave me realistic speeds but idk why its weird now. would you happen to know of any setting that could change this?

the gpu is the Intel HD Graphics 4000 processor with up to 1GB DDR3 SDRAM shared from main memory.

whats weird is that the first two times i rendered like a 5 minute video and it gave me a speed of 20 mins which is realistic. but i dont know what changed from before. also do you know why it isn’t using the processor’s full potential? the first two times i rendered, it was using 90% of the processor and 95% of the ram but now its just 85%ram and 10% processor.

you definitely need a dedicated video card, try and grab a cheap 560 Ti or, if money isn’t an issue, a GTX 570 off ebay or similar since they are pretty much discontinued but the best cards for Sony Vegas Pro 11 and 12 nowadays. For the time being you make sure you turn GPU acceleration OFF in Vegas preferences and use just the CPU for rendering. Maybe the next integrated GPUs in Haswell CPUs this summer will be enough to run Vegas, specially those in the 4770 processors, but nothing compared to a dedicated card, even if it is a low end 1 GB 5XX past generation Nvidia card.

i see what you’re trying to say but whats weird is that the first two times i rendered, it gave me realistic render times. this was also done on the same computer where the cpu was used to its full potential. so i dont think buying a dedicated gpu will solve my problem but it would definitely help me in the future.
