Hi, im new to sony vegas and have only done a couple of video projects.
Im using pro 11 and dont have a clue what format i should be rendering in.

Im only making this video from a digital camera I took travelling with me as i never planned to make it. From looking at the properties of the footage (right clicking and properties, is there a better way?) it is

    MP4
    1280×720
    data rate: 6010kbps
    total bitrate: 6083kbps
    at 30fps

I want to put this video on facebook and likely youtube.

Would be fantastic if you could teach me how to understand render settings and solve my problems here. Thanks! Bas

    Hello,
So first thing i would do is check the places you want to upload
    What Youtube wants
    https://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1722171

    Audio Codec: AAC-LC

Channels: Stereo or Stereo + 5.1
Sample rate 96khz or 48 khz
    Video Codec: H.264

    Progressive scan (no interlacing)
    High Profile
    2 consecutive B frames
Closed GOP. GOP of half the frame rate.
    CABAC
Variable bitrate. No bitrate limit required, though we offer recommended bit rates below for reference
    Color Space: 4.2.0

These setting should work just fine for facebook as well.

Check your project setting and match them to your footage as best as possible before rendering

In the Render As tab, I would use MainConcept AVC/AAC .mp4 with Internet HD 720p.
In the customize Template i would
Set the Profile from “Main” to “High”
Deselect “Allow source to adjust frame rate”
I am guessing “Number of reference frames” means B-frames. So that set that to 2.
    Select “two-pass”
As for the wanted Maximum and Average bit rates youtube does not seem very clear on. So i would leave them at there standard.

    Hope that helps
    Goodluck
