[Carl Lundell] ” because I did a test by removing some of the clips from the timeline and that lets me open up the project again”

You are going to have to break your project up into smaller sub-projects that your PC can handle.

Since you are going to end up in YouTube, just render segments of the project into separate AVI files. When you’re finally done, open a new Vegas project and drag the finished sections to the timeline and render all that to a new, final AVI file. You do not need to use VirtualDub for anything, just upload the final AVI file to you Tube. they are going to re-encode whatever you send to them, so I would skip the extra encoding with VirtualDub.

Ok thanks, I will try that.

These are my specs by the way, is it not powerful enough to handle this type of large project? 🙁

    #OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
    #CPU: Intel Core i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz (4 CPUs)
    #RAM: Crucial DDR3 1333MHz 4GB KIT, CL9
    #HDD: WD VelociRaptor® 300GB SATA and Western Digital Caviar® GreenPower™ 1TB
    #Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D-E LX, Socket-1156
#Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 470 1280MB PhysX CUDA

Hmm, I made the project into 2 sub-projects, I’m now able to open my project with the clips being displayed on the timeline, but it won’t let me render fully. It first stopped at 35% and now on my second try it stopped at 83%, what’s wrong? 😛

Did you remove the unused media from the project?

To isolate the media, what happens when you render the media where the PC stops?

BTW, you PC should be fine, but a 300Gb System drive may be a litle low. How much of Drive C: is free? Your system TEMP folder is on the SYStem drive by default, and some CODECS need a lot of TEMP space to work. If I am dealing with 50Gb of project media, I like to see 100Gb free on Drive C:.

Wooooh!, I removed another 3 clips from my sub-project and that gave me the ability to render the whole first part of the film. I hope it goes as smoothly for my next sub-projects. This is a great solution so far! I’ll get back to you if I come across any further problems.

    =D

Well I’m back again, mainly to thank you for your help. You saved my project. And the solution was indeed what you suggested by breaking down the main project into smaller pieces.

I thank you, sir Stephen! It’s my first visit here, I’ll surely recommend it to my friends, have a good day! =D

    Glad I could help.

After you finish this project, chime back in and we’ll work on fixing your PC so that the next project doesn’t bite you.

Remind me to check on GDI’s – I’ll forget by then.

Should I create a new thread or stay on this one? What’s GDI?
