Sony Vegas Pro 9 user – Need to encode to flv
Posted by Ernesto Marani on July 28, 2009 at 1:46 pmHi everybody,
I have to encode to flv, an MPEG2 file produced in Vegas Pro 9.0
Is there a plug-in for this?
If not, anybody knows a professional way to do it (I am willing to pay up to $120 for an encoder; don’t have enough budget to buy Sorenson Squeeze and the like)Thank you very very much

July 28, 2009 at 1:59 pmThis is a great program and very easy to use. It will convert your video to FLV.
https://www.moyea.com/video-to-flash
Just drop the video in, indicate that you want either a SWF or FLV file, change the width and height (I usually go 640×480) and the KBPS (I usually go around 1400) and you are good to go. I tested out many flash converters and this one if my favorite.

July 28, 2009 at 3:30 pmWe actually do use Sorenson Squeeze here at the office, but at home for personal projects and some corporate websites I use Riva FLV encoder which is free. I don’t know if it’ll convert directl from mpeg2 since I’ve never tried, but if you export the project just as an avi it’ll work fine. Moyea sounds good too though, but if you want to give something free a chance to see if it’ll work you can just google “Riva FLC Encoder”

July 28, 2009 at 4:42 pm…. if your video will go to the web, it is good to know that the newest flash player version supports (and play) mp4-h.264 video as well, that you can render from Vegas (mainconcept AVC template) with excelent results even in HD (1280 x 720) ….
good luck

Hi Enrique.
I’m confused. Are you saying that H.264 will play in in most flash video players?
So I can just upload Main Concept AVC H.264?
And will Sony AVC H.264 work as well?
Thank you,
Norman

July 29, 2009 at 4:58 pmYes I’m curious about this too… especially the use of the MainConcept AVC template. I have Vegas 9a, and it only has two resolutions available for that AVC template (640 and 320). Surely if this codec could do HD, Sony would have included templates for that. How do you get 720p H.264 out of Vegas?
I’m still looking for the optimal settings for Youtube video out of Vegas (both SD and HD).

I would start with the Vegas Pro 9.0 built-in YouTube template for HD that Sony supplies. It’s under Sony AVC then Internet 16:9 HD 30p.

July 30, 2009 at 9:21 pm..I’m using (with Vegas 8pro) the mainconcepts AVC beginning with the iPOD 640 x 480 template and “customizing” the size (1280 x 720) for HD, as well as some other things (bitrate to 2,500,000 minimum, etc.) …. you can upload this mp4 video with your other web files (player, etc.) and if the final user has the latest versions of flash player it will play as a normal FLV (with no conversion from your Vegas render) …. this mp4 file is the same that sometimes I upload to YouTube as HD video… and here is an example of that:

enjoy & good luck
