Sony Vegas Pro 8 Loading Time and Render Quality
I’m new to Sony Vegas 8 and have been struggling with a couple of issues. These are, I suspect, not really related so I do apologize for putting them in one post:
Firstly, the details of my video and project settings are:
I use a SONY DCR-SR300E Hadycam that shoots 720x576x32 (widescreen) 25 fps (PAL) upper-field first interlaced Mpeg-2 format with 5.1 Dolby AC-3 audio. My project settings correspond (as far as I can tell) to these video features.
My issues are:
1. Vegas takes an incredibly long time to load projects. The project I am currently working on is about 30min long and it takes approx 13 minutes to load!. This has become particularly annoying, since Vegas is crashing ever-more frequently on my PC.
2. I am interesting in rendering my edited video to DVD. The quality of my raw footage is quite good and I would (ideally) like to preserve this quality in the rendering process (i.e. the highest PAL DVD rendering quality possible). Since I have seen a number of posts on this issue I need to emphasize that I do not have access to any program other than Vegas for rendering my edited footage (such as, for instance, Sony DVD Architect). I have tried a host of different rendering combinations (over and above the preset/default options provided by Vegas 8). The best combination I have tried to date has been to use two-pass max. quality progressive scan vbr (max:9mil, avg: 7mil, min:1.5mil) for my video. However, the quality of the video after rendering is not really as good as the raw footage. In addition, there appears to be some “horizontal line” shakiness whenever there is motion in the video.
I would appreciate any assistance with these issues: Am I using the right bit rates? Is my field-order correct (Does it even matter)? Is there ay way to fully preserve the quality of my raw footage in the final video?

This is admittedly a long shot, but it happened to me so……
Make sure your hard drive is OK. I just had a situation where my Seagate 7200.11 1TB drive (known for their issues) went offline during long read/write sessions. The data is all there and it works fine for shorter tasks. But it would go brain dead during a DVD prepare. It passes all normal diagnostices so it would have been hard to spot except that I was already suspicious of it from what I have read on the net.
