Even though I bought Vegas pro 11 just a few months ago. Many have said that 12 is the way to go. I went ahead and ordered it today. Videoguys is selling the upgrade for $149.95. I found a coupon online for $10 off that worked as well. I’m looking forward to 12 and I understand it is substantially better than 11.

Yes Bob, its worth the effort to get it. Just after
you purchase and install Vegas 12 and ready to go,
    uninstall Vegas 11.

I did not delete Vegas Pro 11, is that why when I “save as” in Pro 12 it saves edits as Vegas 11 veg files? Then it says that I can’t open the edit because it was created on a newer version of Vegas.

If I delete Vegas 11 will all my past edits open in Vegas 12?

Read this post for a fix that allows you to keep the previous version.

This post mentions a registry change to set the default to version 12 rather than uninstalling 11.

What reason would you want to keep Vegas 11 Mark?

I like to keep the previous versions around to help with troubleshooting. I have been able to do everything I need with SVP 12 for the last month or so. The registry change allows people to address the problem, but still have the previous version until they feel comfortable to remove it. Removing version 11 is also a valid solution and I did not mean to imply it was not.

    Solution from Sony…works for me

It appears that Vegas Pro 11 is set as the default program to open that particular file extension. Please locate one of the .veg files that you are trying to open and right click it. Then navigate to Open With -> Choose Default Program and select Vegas Pro 12 from the list.

All .veg files should now be correctly associated with, and opened by, Vegas Pro 12.
