one thing you should try after updating GPU drivers is resetting Vegas to default (CTRL+SHIFT while starting) then disable GPU, restart computer, open vegas in the default mode you just set and then re-enable the GPU acceleration, sometimes Vegas registry keys point to old drivers flags instead of new ones, so it doesn’t hurt to clean the house a bit after installing new drivers.

Are you folks saying that you actually successfully use GPU acceleration in 12 Pro? I have never had it work correctly on 11 or 12, and blamed it on an older Geforce card.

I just installed a new GTX 650ti, and was looking forward to the added performance. Indeed, it could display a faster preview frame rate at a higher res, but froze often, and displayed the dreaded red screen of death.

Pehaps this card isn’t well supported? I have the latest drivers and such on Windows 8 64. Is acceleration better implemented with Radeon cards?

My Quadro 4000 is working fine. It’s not always faster than my HexCore CPU but it does work.

Well… the problem with the 600/700 series cards is that they are based on the new Kepler architecture and Vegas Pro 12.0 was written for the older 400/500 Series Fermi cards. I’m guessing it will take a while for the software to catch up to the hardware.

Interesting. I was using a very old 9800GT card, and didn’t expect anything of it really. I was looking forward to updating, and gaining some horsepower, but apparently I went a bit too far. I actually just bought this card, and I wonder if it’s worth returning it for a 500 series card? I do see a little benefit in rendering, but it’s less than a 20% improvement.

    Thanks for your response John.

I would not return it because this is just a statement in time. NVIDIA is the cause of the problem. Their new cards only perform at 1/4 of their rated performance unless software manufacturers write to the new API. I’m sure that in time, Sony will update Vegas Pro an you’ll be happy you got the new card. Right now, you just can’t benefit totally from it.

Hi, i am sorry if i revive an old or dead topic, but this was one of the best results google had to offer!

    So i used to run a i73770k with a gtx680 and Vegas Pro12, i upgraded my pc to i74770k with an gtx980 and Vegas13.
Since then, i cannot use GPU acceleration anymore (which is mostly annoying for the video preview on 2nd screen).
Vegas does not only crash randomly during preview but also durin redering.
Once i set Gpu acc to OFF everything works perfectly.

I of course tried with my old Vegas12.
And i tried to change the display to 1screen only during the render, and tried to set the preview window to screen1 instead of 2, nothing helped.

    But just read this:
[John Rofrano] “Well… the problem with the 600/700 series cards is that they are based on the new Kepler architecture and Vegas Pro 12.0 was written for the older 400/500 Series Fermi cards. I’m guessing it will take a while for the software to catch up to the hardware.

And that was the first idea that came to my mind when i started having that issue.
Could it just be a conflict between Vegas and the very new gtx900 gerneration?

    Thanks for any input!

That would be my guess. There seems to be a problem with newer cards and Vegas Pro. I would contact Sony support so that they know about it.
