Had an initial issue I posted on here regarding the program crashing constantly. After disabling GPU acceleration in the software, this seems to have fixed the software crashing issue.

Now rendering and other aspects of the program are running much smoother. I do have an additional issue now though. We have some effects (starburst, sepia) loading on certain layers that no longer appear. After rendering as a test we see that there is a “glitch effect” that loads a square green block when the effect should load.

I tested this out further by doing the following:
    – added new effects to other areas of the video. None of the effects load at all
    – re-enabled gpu acceleration and tried this again, still did not load
    – Created a new file. Dragged over a generic stock photo and applied the effect. The effect did not load.

So this seems to be a general issue with the program and not a particular file. I am not sure if there is a setting that somehow is disabled and not loading it but I am not sure what the next step would be.

Just when you are ready to render, save your project, restart
Vegas, reload the project and go straight to rendering.
Now see if they come out as they should.

Well the first issue here is I closed out of vegas completely. I then opened it back up and added to a new file an effect. But the preview in the program does not show it. I did save the project at this point, close out, open it back up and the preview still does not show the effect.

I figure that prior to rendering this should at least work in the preview.

The only thing i can recommend you try then is a re-installation
of Vegas. Everything will remain as they are in Vegas after you
re-install, So its no big deal. And if you are not using the latest
version of Vegas (Build 714), download and install that.

Is it possible you have the button above the viewing screen turned “on” which won’t show any FX as applied? This button is to the left of the Preview Quality button and has a small square with a black circle on it, the left side of the square is blue, the right is white. This button allows you to quickly turn on and off the viewing of your project with the FX on or off.

Boom. This option for split-video editing was enabled accidentally at some point – most likely during the troubleshooting process by the end-user. I had googled this while still on site earlier and found this was a common mistake that causes this issue. After doing this everything worked perfectly.

Right now all issues resolved so they are editing away.

    Thanks for everyone’s assistance!

That one slipped me, your failing to load issue and not seeing
the effects, sent my focus somewhere else….lol
    Glad its sorted out.
