Hi Kass, I looked at both and frankly the rendered MP4 file looks fine on my PC. It would help if you sent me the source FRAPS file and rendered MP4 file with the exact same frames so I know what might be different. As far as I could tell, the rendered MP4 file was as crisp and clear as the FRAPS source although it was a completely different scene.

What did you feel was wrong with the rendered file? Here is a screenshot so that you can see what I’m seeing. I can read all of the text and the image looks pretty good to me:

Hi John,

What do you mean by the source fraps file? I sent you the footage recorded straight out of fraps. and an mp4 render, both at the same resolution and frame rate.

The mp4 clip you have seen looks terrible on my computer, when in motion the screen blurs all over the place, looks darker etc than the original.

I’ve tried using different media players but that was no help either.

Anything else you would like to know please ask 🙂

You gave me some source frames that were not used in the render so I cannot see the difference between the two scenes. The source was in an area of the game that had a very blue tone and the render was in an area that had a very green tone so I wasn’t sure that was part of the problem.

As you can see by the screen shot that I posted, there is no blur or darkening at all. Something must be wrong with your computer and it has nothing to do with Vegas because the file you sent me looks perfect. I felt like I was actually playing the game.

I’m thinking it may be a codec problem since all players are showing the same problem. Have you tried uploading it to YouTube or Vimeo and then watching it? It should look just as good as I saw it. Also look at it from a friends computer to see if it looks different than on yours because as I said, it looked great on my computer (you see the screen shot… does that look good to you?)

How can this be a codec issue? when i watch other peoples videos on youtube they look fine? same as dvds etc…

does it look bad to you on youtube? Ive not installed any codec packs or anything, my desktop is completely clean, so how have i got bad codecs if that is the issue?

Also ive never been one to use codec packs, as normally, for me at least, they have only ever caused problems. either straight away or sometime down the line.

AMD (My graphics card) do there own ‘AMD Media Codec package’.
Would it be beneficial for me to download this?

That video is private so I can’t see it. Can you make it public or give it a password or something so I can see it.

Also you never answered by question: What do you think of the screen shot that I posted? Is that the way it looks to you? because that’s looks pretty clear to me.

I’m going to say no, because you shouldn’t need it. I don’t have that and your video looks great on my computer. I just built this computer a month or two ago so it is relatively clean. It has the Sony suite, Vegas Pro 12.0, Sound Forge Pro 10.0, ACID Pro 7.0. The Adobe CS6 suite because I use Photoshop and Illustrator as well as After Effects, and lots of plug-ins. I’m having no problems viewing that footage without any blur.

Perhaps try re-installing Vegas Pro to re-establish it’s codecs? I really don’t know why it would look so bad on your PC when the same file looks great on mine. Have you tried playing it on a friends PC?

The video should now be ‘public’.
Yes your screenshot looks ok but the screenshot wasnt taken when the charatcer is in motion, at 0:05secs into the clip. in the top left quarter of the screen there is a huge blur on the terrain. Just looked at it on the Girlfriends laptop and is the same as on my desktop.

Ive already tried re-installing Sony Vegas.
Sony support was useless (Expected better to be honest)

Ive done a full re-format of system, the whole machine is clean.
Like i said in a previous post, When i view other peoples videos on youtube they look fine. only mine look terrible #Confused

I’ve just had a look at the YouTube footage on a Sony VPCF137 at 1080p and it looked perfect – text was crisp and readable, motion was fluid, pretty much looked like the game as playing on my desktop.

I know that’s not necessarily not much help, but at least you know you’re producing good footage even if it doesn’t seem so on your PC.
