  • Sony Vegas Pro 11 preview lag, no effects, high specs PC

Hi. I’ve been editing using Sony Vegas Pro 11 for nearly 2 years now. Recently I formatted my hard drives and performed a clean Windows install. Since then I’m experiencing horrible preview lag. Now this isn’t your standard preview lag caused by loads of effects etc.
It will happen with or without effects, HD footage or not. So far tested with .avi and .wmv, both cause the same issue. Initially, for the first 5-10 minutes after launching the program everything is super smooth, even when using 1080p footage and having the preview set to good quality. As I work my way through, say when cutting clips etc it will get progressively worse. Roughly about 15 minutes after launching the program, the framerate on the preview window goes from stable 20-30 to around 5. As soon as I close vegas and launch it again it’s back to normal, almost as if it reset itself.
I tried changing the allocated memory etc and it seems to do nothing.
As you can imagine, having to restart vegas every 10 minutes is very annoying and makes my work take a lot longer than it would normally.
Has anyone ever heard about something similar? Any known fixes?
I apologise if this problem has been solved before, I’ve seen loads of threads like this one but in most of them it’s usually the fault of weak hardware.

    PC Specs:
    Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz
Evga Gtx 770 Acx Superclocked 2GB
    Corsair 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz Vengeance Memory
    Asus Xonar DG sound card
    OCZ 120GB Agility 3 SSD
    WD Caviar Black 1TB

    Thanks.

You sure you re-installed all your previous drivers properly?

Yeah, 100% sure. Everything else seems to be working just fine. I might try reinstalling Vegas soon and see if it helps. I was hoping someone already had this issue and knows the fix.

There isnt a solid fix for most of Vegas 11 issues
Daniel…. Try then and reinstall it and see.

Have you updated Windows since the reinstall?

Hi. Sorry for such long wait, I wasn’t able to deal with this issue earlier.
I upgraded to vegas 12, the issue is still there. I played around with the playback RAM and it works better with higher values (obviously) but even when allowing the program to use 14GB’s for the playback it is still very laggy. The optimal value seems to be around 8GB. Strange.
