Sony Vegas Pro 11-Preview issue
Posted by Susan Fielding on June 8, 2012 at 1:53 pmSony Vegas Pro 11 64 bit
My preview quality is horrible for some reason. The project resolution is 1440x1080x32, 29.970i but the preview is 360x270x32, 29.970p. I can’t seem to get the preview to match the project. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you!

June 8, 2012 at 3:34 pmAbove your preview screen, you will see a preview quality
button, click it and set it to Preview (Full).
Then right click directly inside the preview window and
uncheck/deselect Adjust size and quality for optimal playback.Steve Rhoden

June 8, 2012 at 3:39 pmThank you! I could have sworn I tried that.
The preview still looks horrible. The picture is very grainy and lacks contrast. When I render and view the rendered footage the picture looks fine. Is there another setting that I may be overlooking?

June 8, 2012 at 4:29 pmAre you comparing the images on the same screen?
Are you sure your preview isn’t set to Auto?
Is your PC powerful enough to handle full-resolution preview?

June 8, 2012 at 4:36 pmThank you for the response. Yes, I am comparing on the same screen and by preview is set to “preview (full)”. I have a six core processor with 2TB of ram, so the issue is not my machine.

Try setting it to Good (Full) or Best (Full). Setting it to “Preview (Full)” is exactly as the name implies… a reference “preview” so that you can see what frame you’re on with no regard for quality.

Do you mean 2GB of RAM or 2 TB of RAM? Or did you mean 2TB of hard drive space? If you have 6 cores with 2GB of RAM you need more RAM. You should optimally have 2GB per core but the minimum would be 1GB per core so you should have either 6GB or 12GB of RAM for 6 cores (or 8GB and 16GB if you have dual or quad-channel memory).

June 9, 2012 at 12:10 pmBe sure that Preferences/Video tab GPU is not off. It should indicate what video card you are using.
The main reason I upgraded to 11 was for the awesome preview capabilities when compared with 10.

June 12, 2012 at 12:08 pm1) Any particular reason why you are using a 32 bit pixel format instead of 8 bit?
2) Have you selected Adjust source media to better match project or render settings in your project properties? My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6
