Sony Vegas Pro 11 Editing Hiccups
Hello All,
Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to provide me with some help. I am relatively new to video editing so please bare with me if the answer is pretty easy. I have been working with some video’s in Mp4 format; and whenever I make what I would have thought as light edits (e.g. text, transitions, etc.) the project freezes on the last image before the text, transitiion, etc. and resumes once again after the effect has passed.
I was thinking maybe it’s just my laptop not coping up with Vegas. But it meets system reqs for Vegas. Here is the specs for my laptop:
OS: Win 7 64 Bit
CPU: I3 @ 2.4 GHZ
Memory: 4 GBCan anyone provide some insight onto me and help me figure out what the problem is. I am really getting into video editing and would love to be able to do work off of my laptop.

Most likely your CPU can’t keep up with the processing needed to display transitions. You may also notice a freezing when playing back segments that have supers, especially those with soft edges and semi transparent drop shadows.
Try setting the preview quality lower. You’ll find this as a drop-down menu above the preview window. Try setting it to “preview (half)”.
You can also render a region by placing a region over the area you want to view and pressing shift “B”. This is only good for very short segments depending on the amount of RAM in your PC.

Thanks for getting back to me Larry. So if I were to upgrade my cpu and leave my Ram at that amount I should be fine right? Or would you prefer I upgrade my Ram as well? As far as CPU upgrade an I7 3.4 Ghz should run much better right? Or do I need to look for something more intense?
You also mentioned “freezing when playing back segments that have supers”, this might be a dumb question but what is “supers”?

Obviously, the more, the faster, the better, when it comes to RAM and CPUs.
I use a quad core i7 @ 3.07G with 12 GB ram.
But my suggestion was for you to lower the preview quality and perhaps you could use your current configuration with better results.

I’m from a broadcast background and the supers I mentioned are CG titles “superimposed” over video backgrounds. Or “keyed” over the background. Sometimes called “supes”

With VP9 I had to use cineform neoscene to edit my 7D footage, worked great, VP11 seems to play natively, but I need to do some further tests.
