  • Sony Vegas Pro 10 Save Question!!

Posted by Stephen Millet on March 31, 2011 at 3:18 am

    Hi,
So i just started an important project. This is my first video with Pro 10. The first time I saved I realized my video and audio was not saved. I think it was because I did not check the box stating “copy media with project” . I then checked this box and the video and audio saved but when I saved multiple times and error occured and I got a message saying I need to “change the file name”. What is the best way to save a project multiple times while working. Thanks

    -Stephen

You don’t need to save the media – it is unchanged from the original. All you need to save is the veg file.

When you say no media, is the media track still there but there are no wave forms? Is there any sound at all when you play from the timeline?

Are you saving or trying to ‘render as’?

There will be nothing at all on the time line when I re-open. Im only hitting “save as” before I close. I have not began to render yet.

How are you “re-opening”? the recommended way is to double-click on the veg file.

This is not good but you didn’t know and I’ve seen others make this mistake too. When you select “copy media with project” the assumption is that you are pointing to a completely new and empty folder for archiving. If you point back to your original folder Vegas will start making duplicate and triplicate copies and messing everything up.

I would abandon this project and chalk it up to experience. Start a new project in a new folder and never use “copy media with project” unless you are archiving to a new location. Don’t forget to manually copy your original media files to the new project folder. All of the files with ” – 1″, “- 2” after the name are Vegas copes that can be deleted. It’s a mess but it’s a lesson learned.

Steve, with all due respect, I open it using the “File – open” method all the time and never have any problems.
I’m certain that John’s suggestion will get the OP back to happy editing.

I don’t use the “save as” in Vegas for saving multiple versions of a project. I keep a Windows Explorer open at that saved folder and copy/paste the last currently saved veg file. I can then rename it if I want to give it a specific name, or just keep it as an archived snapshot with the name Windows gives it.

    Stephen

Does the audio in the project play on the time line before the save and then ‘disappear’ after saving and closing down Vegas?

Does it do it for other media you bring into the time line or a specific set of media?

Copy media with project is not necessary in this instance. Are you able to revert to the veg you started with?

I still don’t understand what the real issue is.
