Yes, you could use it for that.

I thought you were asking if it had a performance advantage like having a second physical drive does. My point was that with one partition, if you have to save a file the head could save it wherever the next closest free space is. With two partitions, it will have to seek to the second partition before looking for space. I realize you weren’t looking at it that way but that’s the only point I was making.
If you want to make a second partition to make it easier to back things up or use a different cluster size then that’s a valid use for a second partition on the same physical drive.
