Sony Vegas – MXF D10 (IMX) Closed Captioning issue
Hi all,
Here is a strange bug we discovered in Sony Vegas 12.
When we export MXF D10 (IMX) files with closed captions on Sony Vegas I get this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/27klrhalicmfejk/imx50-project-vegas12.mxfAnd here is the same file encoded by another vendor:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wf63gdog3vuyq00/imx50-project-telestream.mxfThe source SCC file is here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/m0xjvjswafxddly/imx50-project-source.sccIf you look in the the VBI area, Vegas is adding the actual video behind the VBI. Not only is Vegas stretching the video and sometimes reducing the video quality, but this can also damage the actual closed captions — for instance, if the background video contains white it could blend in with the caption markers.
In the file encoded by the other vendor, you can see that the VBI is nice and clean (only black and captions on it).
To replicate this bug in Vegas:
a. File > New > Template > NTSC IMX (720×486, 29.970 fps)
b. Insert 10″ of SMPTE colorbars from Media Generators (or insert any other video)
c. Insert the SCC file above
d. “Render As” Sony MXF > NTSC MPEG IMX 50Does anyone know how to resolve/work around this issue? We don’t want see our video in the VBI!
WL
