Sony Vegas is crashing.
It’s been happening for two days now. I can open a new project no problem but when I open a saved project it loads just fine in the beginning and then when it’s opened, in the green bar when it’s loading the project contents it won’t pass the 1% and then crash down. I tried reinstalling it but with no avail!! This is really frustrating, does anyone can give me a helping hand?

Tell us more… Does it happen on all saved projects or just one? Have you tried moving the assets for the problem project and making Vegas ‘ask’ for them one by one? What version are you using?

Okay. So right now I have 4 saved projects. The first one I opened works and opens every time I try to open it. Then when I close it and try to open a different one, the crashing problem happens. I have Sony Vegas Pro 8.0. And I’ve restarted my computer and opened a different project than the one that previously opened. This one opened too but when I try to open the others, the problem persists.
And I’m sorry. I didn’t get what you mean with moving the assets thing. I don’t understand these kind of things.

Has this just started happening? Did something change (i.e. you upgraded, added some software or hardware recently?). Can you open the projects on a different computer? (i.e. load them temporarily on a laptop rather than a desktop, or vice versa?) Try and isolate the problem as best you can. Sometimes crashes can be corruption from disk failure, etc.Being able to test that the files work on a different machine may eliminate Vegas as the problem, and point to something else, like a virus, hardware, etc. Is there anything unusual about the files? New Huge files for example? Do you have backups to try (don’t use them directly but copy them to the disk in question). etc.
Sorry for being vague, but there are a bunch of possible things here. Isolating it to Vegas is worth doing.

I will explain the assets. I have a folder for projects and in that folder I have more folders for each individual project. In these individual folders I have some m-peg, some lower-thirds in .mov format some stills and some music. These are the assets. If you move these (without moving the .veg file) Vegas will ask you where each file you used in the project is. (Because it can no longer find them.) If you respond to the dialog for each file one at a time, you may be able to isolate the problem because Vegas will stop responding on a certain file. Replace that file and you may have a working project. If it fails on all files of a certain type then you may have a codec issue.
