Sony Vegas in Mac

I doubt that there is any agreement at all. Sony is heavily dependent on Windows technologies like the .Net Framework that don’t exist on a Mac. Like Danny said, you can run Windows on a Mac natively or by using Fusion. I realize it’s not as good as having a native Mac version but that’s never going to happen with the current Sony codebase.

Hey, thanks for the answer… That surely is a good reason, the .net framework and things like that… but Is strange Sony has not made something yet to have that amazing software running on a mac.

Hope someday this change… Its important nowadays to have a software like the ones from Sony in both systems.

Not really. As john said, Vegas uses tons of Windows routines that don’t exist in a Mac environment, so to make a Mac version would require a MAJOR rewrite of code – probably close to 100%. Vegas Windows users would never stand for paying the cost of the engineering effort to develop a product (Vegas for Mac) few would use, and Vegas for Mac users would never pay for the development costs for a new product with a small market (really, Windows outnumbers MAC users by a huge percentage).

It is a LOT easier porting a Mac program to Windows or Linux than the other way around.

I know a lot of Mac users that would love the Vegas enviroment… nowadays a lot of proffesionals who work with audio, video and photography use mac system… I understand about the costs and everything but come on… we are talking about SONY… I think they can!!

And even when users of Windows make a big difference… the world of mac users is not small at all.

Mac doesn’t have a lock on this ability.
A lot of professionals using PC systems do the same thing.

Yea, but for how much longer? The number is not as small as you might think anymore and it’s growing due to the shift in computing paradigms.

I guess it all depends on your rate of adoption of new technologies. If you still carry a “flip-phone” then the world hasn’t changed much in the last 5 years and PC’s rule. But if you have a “smart phone” the world is a very different place and your view of a “personal computing device” is probably very different.

I’ll relate from my recent personal experience:

I bought my father-in-law an iPad because it seemed like the best device for him to travel with to just access email and the web. It sure beats carrying around a heavy laptop just to perform the same task. When I set it up for him, I experienced the brilliant simplicity with which Apple had created their iPad software and I was totally blown away. It asked me for his email address and password and the next screen displayed his email. Where was the screen asking for the SMTP server? How about if I want to use SSL or not? Why does Windows ask me 10 questions for which I don’t know the answer to just to set up an email account and Apples doesn’t have to? It was then I realized why people say the Mac is far superior to Windows…. because it is! 😉

Then I bought an iPad for myself so that we could FaceTime with him and I started using it every. I started making music with GarageBand on my iPad and couldn’t believe how simple it was to use. It just worked and didn’t get in the way of the creative process. It also has a lot of cleaver instruments for inspiring creativity.

Next I requested a MacBook Pro for work, and I bought an iPhone and a MacMini for home so I could transfer my iPad GarageBand ideas to the MacMini to finish them. I’m now contemplating whether I should build another Windows PC for video editing or just buy a 12-core Mac Pro.

So what’s happening here? We are at the dawn of the “Post PC” era. I don’t need a desktop computer for most of my work anymore. I can do almost everything on a tablet (iPad). When I do need a desktop, I prefer working on a Mac now. Vegas is the only reason I need to keep a Windows PC around! (every other software package I use has a Mac version)

I have a strange feeling that I’m not alone. People are experiencing Apple’s products through the purchase of iPads and iPhones and realizing that computing doesn’t have to be as difficult as Microsoft makes it out to be and their next purchase will probably be a Mac. At least this was how I experienced it. Your mileage may vary.

Add to the development cost of porting the software to the MAC the fact that Apple does not want it there. Apple has FCP which is their own product. They try very hard to discourage and undermine all potential competition.

Me and my band recorded a metal album using garage band… and Im someone who is seroiusly thinkin’ in having a Mac as a netx computer… and YES… this was by using mac products… becauese YES… they are not that hard to use as some people might think.
