I’m a new videographer working on projects where I need to capture hour long vids from mini dv tape to sony vegas 5 from a mini dv recorder/player. so far the only way i can seem to do this is in real time. which sucks.
does anyone know of a way to capture vid in atleast 2x?

    thanks in advance!

i am using a sony digital video cassette recorder gv-d1000 ntsc

(would it possibly be better if i captured the video straight from the camera? would there be a speed up possibility there? the camera is a panasonic AG- DVX100Bp)

Capturing from MiniDV is real-time. To capture a 1 hour tape takes 1 hour.

Duh, it would already be captured if you captured it the same time as acquisition. You would then skip the normal capture from tape step. If you use a camera that is not tape based (a harddrive or a card) then capture is much quicker.

    No,
but what do you plan to do? Place your camera or deck into ff and capture? Assuming a tape based unit, of course.

i was hoping maybe the camera had a 2x dub feature whilst the sony dv cassette thing didn’t. but i think that idea is a longshot…plus people are telling me that firewire is not compatible with anything other than real time.
