Sony Vegas & Adobe After Effects
Posted by E. Lopez on April 7, 2006 at 12:05 pmHello,
Please excuse the question, but I am not familiar with after effects and would like to know if these two programs (vegas & adobe a.e.) compliment each other… I own Sony Vegas 5 and love it, I am upgrading to 6.
Thanks, E. Lopez

April 7, 2006 at 3:58 pmjust beware when you go between the 2 apps that sony renders to 601 spec’s 16-235 rgb and AE defaults to 0-255rgb ..which means that 235 ( 100 ire) is clipping in Vegas .. and 255 ( 100 ire) is clipping in AE .. 255rgb would be 108ire in Vegas …

Is there anyway to make one app consistent with the other app? How do you compensate for these differences?

April 14, 2006 at 6:22 pmThat would explain the subtle contrast shift when I mix video rendered in AE with video that hasn’t been through it.

April 15, 2006 at 7:29 pmi don’t find a problem with rendered uncompressed clips out of Vegas used in AE … it’s the rendered uncompressed clips out of AE/combustion taken into vegas .. what i did was rendered uncompressed SMPTE color bars out of AE .. drop those into Vegas TL – then i apply CC to get the bars to read correctly in Vegas waveform scopes – i then save that setting as plug in chain and use it on all clips that were rendered in AE/premiere/combustion …
AE7 now has settings for 16-235 or 0-255 or 709 color space for hdv..
