Sony Vegas 12 Plays Audio But Not Video
Hey guys,
so I’ve started a video project and got all of the shooting done however my camera captures in .AVI. I imported them into Vegas so that it was on the timeline however there was no video. After a quick google search I soon found out that Sony Vegas isn’t compatible with .AVI so I converted it into .wmv however there is still no video! I should probably mention that the first thing I did when the video showed up was download this “K-Lite Codec Pack” hoping it would help. Unfortunately, I just got a bunch of errors so I attempted to make sure that it didn’t change anything and I uninstalled it.
My specs: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
AMD FX(tm)-6100 six-core processor 3.30 GHz
8 GB of RAM

Wrong!
I’ve been using AVI containers for 12 years in Vegas. It’s what INSIDE the AVI container you’ve got to determine.
The INTERNET is a great portal for “information”. However, you get incorrectly recieved-wisdom too. Do NOT install any further CODEC packs – STOP!
Download the free media analyser G-Spot and determine what’s inside that AVI.

Well actually I’ve figured out what the problem was but now I don’t know how to fix it. I downloaded the “K-Lite Codec Pack 64-bit” and but the problem was that I had DivX installed before hand. I read that before I install K-lite I’m supposed to delete any other codec packs I have. I deleted all of DivX that I could find and then installed K-Lite again however now nothing is working at all. 🙁 Even with a .WMV file as soon as I attempt to play it Sony Vegas crashes.

All codec packs are intended for use with video players, not video editors. Uninstall all third-party codecs, reinstall Vegas and try again. If this does not work, use MediaInfo to identify the unknown codec, and then download it and install (or convert your video to the “editable” format)

You are also running an earlier version of VP12. Build394 is the latest.

Because it’s any format that I put in crashes instantly when I attempt to play it :/

So opening up SVP is fine, putting a clip in is also fine. Playing the empty areas (with nothing on them in the timeline) in SVP is fine. However the second I scrub over to any clip of any format and hit play SVP crashes instantly.

Now it’s not crashing… wierd… I havent done anything but shut off my computer and go to sleep however I’m still getting no video in the preview no matter what I do! Even if I drop in a solid color it doesn’t show up.
Edit: I updated my video card and now it’s crashing again… :/
