HDV doesn’t support 60fps. It doesn’t even support 24fps. HDV only supports 29.97 and 25.0. I would keep the I-Frames at 15 so that you don’t have too long a GOP.

It determines quality because it determines where full frames are placed. Less I-Frames means less quality because there will only be a full accurate frame once in every 30 frames instead of once every 15 frames. All other frames and deltas from the last I-Frame. This is why the highest quality MPEG footage contains all I-Frames. So just remember, less I-Frames equals less quality but greater compression and smaller file size.

Yes, if you drop down to 720 then 60 fps is a valid frame rate. I assumed you were talking about 1080. I would still keep the I-Frames at 15.

May 31, 2014 at 12:40 amfirst off thank you very much john for your knowledge and time. two more hopefully last questions lol. first concerning this hdv template under the iframes setting theres two settings. profile and level. i have set both of them to high. is this correct? and lastly if i let this 60p footage render in 29.97 how would that affect the look of the video? i ask because i realize the subsequent dvd will be 29.97 interlaced so why render to 59.970 when it wont be that frame rate on dvd. thanx so much for helping me.
