January 9, 2012 at 3:11 pmI found this solution to work for me and hope it helps others.
after selecting a template in the MainConcept encoder click on “customize template” and in the menu that pops up look toward the bottom and you will see “Encode mode”. Click the down arrow next to it and select “render using CPU only”. click OK and render away.
it took me quite a while to find a solution this problem but now all is well in render land. hope this helps. -

January 9, 2012 at 8:15 pmThanks for passing this along Jon,
I think SONY are stating that they fixed this bug in the latest revision.
I have yet to check.

January 12, 2012 at 5:47 pmGod bless you for this! You just saved me from a failure to render two projects.
I’m not sure if this is significant, but I’m using a machine that does not have a GPU that can be leveraged by Vegas for rendering in the first place. I wonder if people that do have an appropriate graphics card are having the same issue in rendering to the .mp4 format.

January 13, 2012 at 2:00 amCorrect me if i’m wrong but i recall seeing that this was indeed fixed in the release notes of the latest VEGAS PRO version.
I just tested it and still have to select the “”render using CPU only” setting or it chokes.
sigh…

March 24, 2012 at 1:38 amThanks so much for that fix, Jon.
I noticed something else too. While you’re in the render dialog box, you can right click on the mouse to expand/collapse all the available formats.

July 17, 2012 at 3:08 amJohn – you are the best – months, builds, etc. I have been trying to figure out why I could not render mp4.
Thanks a million.

July 28, 2012 at 12:31 pmThanks Jon, your tip saved me who knows how many hours. Recently had installed a FirePro V3900 on my Gigabyte 890 mobo. It chomps through many other rendering tasks, but crashes when used with Main Concept .mp4. You’d think that Sony would fix this – it’s hardly an obscure issue in light of the emphasis that Sony makes on GPU rendering.
