Sony Vegas 11 – exact settings to upload a 1080p HD video to YouTube
Hello
I am new to HD and I’ve been trying to upload my first HD project to YouTube for two days now, and it fails/errors every time I try.
I spent time ahead of time trying to figure out what the “best” settings are, but what is in the YouTube help and what is on the web is not in agreement, nor does much of the advice seem to go beyond Vegas 9.
I have Vegas 11 – I am new to it, but I understand how to create movies, and I can set the settings any number of ways – if only I knew what would stop the errors.
At first, I thought it was this “Fast Start” issue; I downloaded the “Fast Start” tool, ran it on my file – and it STILL errored.
So now I am down to settings.
I shot the video in AVHVC (or whatever that is called) HD, imported it into Vegas with no problem, added sound track and titles, and rendered the result. I’m at work now, but from memory, I selected a preset, which was for 1080p at 1920 X resolution, HD – and I then customised the audio (it’s a music video, so I want better quality) to an 44.1 khz AAC 320 kbps file.
Nothing really unusual, but, each time I upload it, it just immediately errors – and gives NO DETAIL as to what the error is.
I have spent time trying to read about, or watch videos about, what the settings should be – and I get back…confusion. One person says one thing, another another, and so on.
I don’t care what they are, I just want a set of settings; specifically for Vegas 11, that I can TRY – I need the complete set, every step, so I can try to re-render my movie so it WILL upload to YouTube.
I feel a little disappointed with a couple of aspects of Vegas 11: it advertises that you can upload directly to YouTube, but when I looked at that option, it gives you NO OPTIONS to manually adjust any parameters at all – they just UPLOAD IT, and expect me to blindly accept whatever blind parameters they are setting behind the scenes? Odd. I don’t go for that.
I want to control the process; I want to make INTELLIGENT choices, based on what the settings SHOULD be, NOT depend on a blind wizard that will probably set things wrong and make me error yet again, and I am tired after 48 hours of “error with your video settings”.
I also feel let down that Sony didn’t (apparently?) incorporate an option to set the “fast start” option as part of the export, I spent AGES looking for it, I searched for “fast start” and “fast start Vegas” and so on, and got NOTHING back until I searched for “MP4 fast start” which returned the custom tool.
The fact that I would need to USE a second tool, when really, Movie Studio should be the be-all do-all video suite, well, I find that a bit disappointing to say the least. Unless someone can tell me “hey, the setting for fast start is HERE”…in Vegas 11???
In any case: HELP !!!
Can someone please publish a list of the exact set of settings that YOU USE, when you export a 1080 HD for upload to YouTube, so I can get this taken care of? I would so, so appreciate it.
In the research I’ve done over the past 2 days, I’ve determined some basics which I hope you can confirm or deny:
1) The audio and the video should be the same length
VIDEO SETTINGS
2) H.264 compression is recommended (I believe that is what I used)
3) Frame rate 30 is preferred, 4 others are acceptable (I believe I used 29.97 per someone’s suggestion)
4) Data rate = “automatic” – but that was for Quicktime – what is this in VEGAS?
5) Key Frames = “automatic” – same, what is this in VEGAS?
6) Frame reordering = No
AUDIO SETTINGS
1) AAC format
2) Constant bit rate
and this is the kicker
3) Prepare for Internet Streaming = “Fast Start” – again, that was for a Quicktime set of settings, WHAT IS THIS IN VEGAS? or do I have to use the little application externally once I’ve rendered?
Can you confirm these are correct, and provide any and all additional settings and steps I need to actually make this work?
My ETERNAL thanks to all
Cheers,
Dave
