sony vegas 11 can’t find projects i save

Are the projects, or part of them, on removable drives or network locations?

Hi Steve Mann,

I think you nailed the problem. I’ve used sony vegas 11 for about a year, but I think one of the things I’ve failed to understand is how it remembers your projects.
Am I right to say I need to keep a copy of all the video files, elsewhere on my computer, eg,in my documents, so that SV accesses them when it runs?
I just assumed once I imported media into the program to edit, copies of the media had been transferred into SV and were remembered there, no longer needing copies of the video files to be external to the program. I’m a little confused by this principle. If you could please clear it up I’d be happy,

The project file (.veg) just points to the media. Vegas is non-destructive, that is it never does anything to the original media. On the timeline, an event is a pointer to the media clip. You can have multiple events on the timeline from the same media clip. (There are no clips on the timeline, just pointers to the media. Those are called “events”). You can trim an event, add a bunch of F/X to the event, and even pan-crop the event but you never touch the media. You can have more events pointing to the same media with each doing something different from the other events. This is non-destructive editing.
