i’m wondering if there’s a plugin or tutorial within sony vegas that can animate text in a manner similar to how it is done in this video

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPn0T4ZpLKE

in addition to the background fog effects and such.
i’ve always wanted to make something in that style, but never really found a good video editor to do it. Perhaps there’s some plugin for sony vegas which allows you to quickly set up animated text? (within a few clicks, using several preset animations like drop fade in, instead of having to manually setup keyframes for every single line)

    thanks

That was likely all done in Flash.
But if you make each text segment into a Photoshop layer then import them into Vegas “across tracks”. Next, spread the events out across the timeline where you want them to appear. Finally, make creative use of transitions to get the effects you want.

Have you tried doing a search on YouTube for tutorials?

Also, there’s tutorials on Sony’s website.

Just being able to watch the first minute or so of the movie you posted, it doesn’t seem too complex. Other experts within this forum might be able to give a better idea, but from what I see:

    1) The “fog” could just be a separate movie clip that repeats (or is just one long clip)

    2) the text that fades in/out and moves is just “text” media with each the fading/movement for each group of text motions specified like you would any other object — keyframes. Start point -> end point. Transparency same thing: 0% -> 100% or vice versa depending on whether the text is fading in or out.

Hope that helps for a starting point!

turns out the vegas animation system was much more advanced than i though, i probably could pull off that text wave effect, but i’d need to do it letter by letter, somewhat time consuming

but that begs the question, is there any way to save a text animation? like, make a neat drop down and spin animation for one line of text, then save it as “drop down and spin”, then just use that for whatever text you want? that would be great

I saw nothing in that video that couldn’t be done in Vegas, most of the time using the standard titler.
Keyframes, Pan/Crop (for the falling text) simple fades and various FX complete the needs.
The ProType titler would be used for the wavy text.

“is there any way to save a text animation?”

As long as you’re using Vegas Pro, yes there is and it’s called “nesting”.
Start a new instance of Vegas, create your animation and save it as DropDownAndSpin.veg
When you need it for another project, import this veg file and drop it on the timeline (this is the “nesting” part).
If you want to modify the text, right-click the event and choose “Edit in Vegas (DropDownAndSpin.veg).
A new instance of Vegas will open up with just this file on the timeline.
Make you changes, save it as DropDownAndSpin-NEW.veg (for example) and close this instance of Vegas.
When you go back to what you were working on, that event will already be updated.

I’ve seen several examples of what ProType titler can do and I’m sure it will fit your needs.
I don’t use it because I find it too convoluted.
YouTube has several tutorials on it, some good and some not so good.
