    I would say yes. Because who knows when or IF Apple will support that format. Thus far the only thing that does is the software that comes with it, and that is PC only.

    Yeah, Apple may not support MTS or AVCHD; at present I convert the
    Sony MTS file to an mpg2 ( a mux file ) and then convert it to a .dv file,
    using MPG Streamclip – this works but tends to defeat the
    purpose for buying the camera . BUT the picture quality is
    still good. BUT not the raw footage that I wanted to edit.

    As for PC editing software … I definitely prefer FC Express.
