Sony PMW F3 and KiPro Mini????
Posted by Douglas Villalba on September 26, 2011 at 10:18 pmHow do you record 23.97 SDI to KiPro Mini and monitor HDMI out? ( I don’t care if it is from the camera or KiPro Mini )
If I set the dual link out I lose HDMI out. If I use the SDI out with pulldown I record 59.94
There is got to be a way, I just haven’t found it.

September 26, 2011 at 11:07 pmOn other Sony XDcams (like the EX1 or EX3) you have to set the “genlock” out to 23.976 and then it will output 23.976 psf. You don’t want dual link if using the Kipro mini.

September 26, 2011 at 11:48 pmIf the output of the camera is 1080PsF 23.98 via HD-SDI, then you cannot monitor HDMI in the same format as HDMI does not support PsF signals, only true progressive. This would be true for either the Sony PMW-F3 or the Ki Pro Mini.
A better solution would be to use HD-SDI output on the camera and use HD-SDI output on the Ki Pro Mini for monitoring; then what you are monitoring and recording is the full signal path at 1080PsF 2.398. If you must use HDMI monitoring for some reason, such as a connection to an electronic viewfinder, then you would want to be sure that you are using firmware version 1.1 on the Sony PMW-F3. For some basic guidelines on this firmware and the use of electronic viewfinders, you might find this link, provided by Abel Cine, useful reading:

September 27, 2011 at 2:17 amThank you guys. Sometimes the answer is so simple that you over look it.
Basically you set HDMI out instead of SDI and Dual Link 1.5 ….. SDI A out to KPM
You are still getting pulldown on the SDI out but 23.97 out of the SDI A out while enabling HDMI at 59.94Douglas Villalba

September 28, 2011 at 9:34 pmWOW, I was so surprise to get a call (in spanish non-the less) from AJA. I am sorry I didn’t write down the name, but thank you anyway.
I didn’t call for the info that I wanted ’cause I got my answer, but they still manage to find my phone number and call me. To be honest we sometimes forget that thst kind of service was the norm.
AJA seems to be scanning this forums to know our needs.
Congratulations AJA, you are the best. Can’t wait to get my Avid codec, hopefully before my production date 10-17-11.Douglas Villalba
