Hi….I have recently had some problems capturing my media from my SonyPD150 which I thought may be my tapes. They will capture only 3 seconds, or sometimes 10 minutes, or will tell me its dropped frames and won’t capture at all. I assumed it was the tapes, but now I am thinking it may be the camera that needs to be cleaned. Have you ever heard of this problem happening? Also, do you know if the camera will record media with problems when taping?
    Thank you for your time.

if you go into “Final Cut Pro” tab, then the “USER PREFERENCES” on the “general” tab there is a check mark that says “abort capture on dropped frames” un check it.

this way you can import it and decide if its the material or camera…

Happened to me last year, when cameraman used Panasonic tape with Sony PD 150
    that normally uses Sony tapes.
Very frequent dropped frames, especially damaged audio.
Capturing erraticaly, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1:30 clips if I got lucky.
Was pretty lucky to save that project (event video) without major trouble.

Sony PD 150 needed complete cleaning of tape transmissiom mechanism.
Sony uses special lubricant which other cameras / tapes see as a dirt.

Do not mix Sony tapes with other tapes.

Another cameraman that uses Panasonic tapes on his Sony PD 170 didn’t have any problems.
I used that tape in my Canon and captured from it – no problems.
